Founded more than 35 years ago, the Kanata Girls Hockey Association (KGHA) grew slowly until 1990 when the first ever Women’s World Championships were played here in Ottawa. Registration shot through the roof, and has continued to grow to become one of the largest Girls’ associations in Eastern Ontario with over 700 players of all ages, playing on more than 40 teams.

The KGHA draws girls from Kanata as well as the neighboring communities of Stittsville, Richmond, and West Carleton. The annual KGHA tournaments draw teams across the province, Quebec, and the U.S.
